SAAMA Fight Nights provide a safe, structured environment where youth athletes can grow their skills through supervised, controlled contact. These events are designed to build confidence, encourage technical development, and support athletes of all experience levels as they progress in their martial arts journey.

Skill & Control First
SAAMA Fight Nights are sparring‑style events that emphasize technique, timing, and development over power. Athletes must demonstrate control at all times. Excessive power will be stopped or penalized at the referee’s discretion.
Waiver & Participant Agreement
All youth athletes must have a parent or legal guardian review and acknowledge our event waiver before applying. It outlines the risks of martial arts participation and the safety standards we follow to protect every athlete. Please read the full waiver before completing the application.
Who Can Apply
This event is open to youth fighters ages 17 and under who train with a recognized martial arts gym and have their coach’s permission to participate.

Safety Overview
SAAMA Fight Night is a youth‑only sparring event, and all athletes must be healthy and injury‑free to participate. Parents or guardians are required to complete and sign the event waiver before their fighter can compete. All matches follow clearly defined rulesets for each discipline and are supervised by trained officials to ensure a safe and structured experience for every athlete.

Does my child need previous competition experience?
No. SAAMA Fight Night welcomes both new and experienced youth athletes. Matchups are made based on age, weight, time training, and experience to ensure fairness.

Can my child apply for more than one discipline?
Yes. Athletes may select multiple disciplines on the application to help with matchmaking, but most competitors will only have one match per night.

What gear does my child need?
Gloves, shin guards, and headgear are provided. Athletes may bring their own headgear or shin guards for officials to approve, and they may also bring handwraps or gauze. All fighters must wear the event‑provided gloves. All fighters must wear a mouthguard and are highly encouraged to wear a groin protector.

What if my child has an injury?
Athletes must be healthy and injury‑free to participate. If your child is recovering from an injury or has a medical concern, they should not apply for this event.

When will we know if we have a match?
After reviewing applications, the matchmaker will contact your coach if a suitable matchup is available.

Do parents need to sign anything?
Yes. A parent or guardian must complete and sign the event waiver before the athlete can compete.

Athletes who arrive without required gear may not be permitted to compete.
Allowed Techniques

Referee Authority
Referees may stop the action at any time to address safety concerns, correct technique, manage excessive power, or de‑escalate intensity. Their decisions are final and made in the interest of athlete development and safety.

Not Allowed
Accuracy and Safety

Incomplete or inaccurate experience history — all striking and grappling experience must be truthfully listed so athletes are matched appropriately.

Undisclosed injuries or medical conditions — athletes must be healthy and cleared to participate.

Unsafe or extreme weight‑cutting practices — weight manipulation that risks athlete health is not permitted.
Documentation and Consent

Applications submitted without parent or guardian consent — required for all youth competitors.

Missing or altered documentation — including waivers, ID, or gym verification.
Equipment and Competition Conduct

Personal gloves or altered equipment — all athletes must use SAAMA‑provided gloves to ensure no modifications or padding changes.

Greasing or oil of any kind — applying substances to the face, body, or headgear is not permitted. Greasing headgear is unnecessary in youth events and creates unfair conditions by transferring to the opponent’s gloves.

Excessive power or uncontrolled contact — this event is focused on skill and technique. Excessive power will be penalized at the referee’s discretion, and repeated warnings may result in point deductions or disqualification.
Coach and Corner Behaviour

Aggressive, disrespectful, or unsportsmanlike behaviour — coaches and corners must maintain calm, respectful conduct at all times.

Instruction that encourages unsafe techniques or rule‑breaking — all coaching must align with SAAMA safety standards.

Interference with officials or matchmaking decisions — referee and staff decisions are final and made for athlete safety.
Attire and Gear

Clothing that obstructs movement or creates risk — athletes must wear attire suitable for their discipline and free of loose or restrictive fabric.

Clothing with pockets — pockets can catch fingers, toes, or equipment and are not permitted.

Unauthorized accessories — jewelry, metal hair clips, and other hard items must be removed before competition.
